This is more of a sigh than a diatribe. I had a phenomenal musician friend with whom I had a brief dalliance because we had so much in common. Repartee, matching word-play, competitions on who could add the most songs to the repertoire in a week, and sincere admiration for one another's talent and ability. We truly liked one another. He finally met the love of his life, married and is living a happy life but to this day, I never forget his birthday and certainly never forget the amazing years we spend as always friends and sometimes lovers.
He grew up in a family of Republicans. We would go back and forth but it was in vain because I could never get a REAL discussion based upon facts. You know, like bringing up the situation the country was in that led up to Social Security and all of the economic stimulus and government job creations steps that Roosevelt took to get us out of the great depression. Of course, back then we had real democrats who were willing to lose their seats to defend the country and put all of their careers on the line to do something that the public didn't understand but came to know was in their best interest. I'm smiling because I'm having a one way argument with an old friend who can't respond.
As long as my conservative friends get their information from FOX or evangelicals we will never be able to move forward. It's not news. It's ideology.
Chris Matthews often says "I will disagree with all you are saying but I will not presume that I know your heart." That is true of my conservative friends. They believe with all their hearts that they are right.
The part that drives me crazy is that they, somehow, feel compelled to "straighten me out" as though it was a given that they are right and I am wrong.
Believe me, my conservative friends, if you were not my friends, I would put forth a tsunami of both constitutional and biblical reasons why you are deluded and harming all of us. But I will save my diatribes, one entry at a time, for this blog. That's why I write it. And I think maybe 2 people read it sometimes. No matter. I get to say all the things that I want to say to the TV just before I divert myself from throwing my too expensive Z-Coil shoe through that expensive HD flatscreen.
I think this blog is not only more satisfying but, in the long run, more cost efficient.
